Kinder & Transitional Kindergarten Preview
Do you have a child who will enter transitional kindergarten (TK) or kindergarten in fall 2026?
If so, plan to attend our Preview Nights offered at all Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD) elementary schools.
These informative events, led by our fantastic elementary school principals, will provide all the information you need to set your child up for success within TTUSD. You’ll learn what makes TTUSD the right district for your child and what makes each of our school sites unique. You’ll also receive information on enrollment, our free meal program for all students, and how to apply for bus transportation services.
Age Requirements
(for the 2026/2027 school year)
Children five years old on or before September 1, 2026, qualify for kindergarten.
Children who were born between September 1, 2021, and September 1, 2022, are eligible for transitional kindergarten. TK students are enrolled in order of the priorities outlined below:

The student resides within the school attendance geographical area

The sibling(s) of the student is currently enrolled in the school

The student resides within the school district but is not within the school attendance geographic area

The student lives outside the district

Which School Can Your Child Attend?
TTUSD offers a neighborhood school for all geographic regions within our district. You can view the Elementary School Attendance Boundaries Map, which designates a student's home school.
However, TTUSD is an open-enrollment district, which means you are welcome to apply to whichever school within the district that best fits your student and their needs. This is done during the enrollment process with an IntraDistrict Open Enrollment Form. So, feel free to attend as many Preview Nights as you’d like since all schools are a possibility.
Please note that all students must initially enroll with their home school and submit an IntraDistrict Open Enrollment Form. As a district, we try to accommodate all IntraDistrict requests, but some requests are denied due to space limitations. Additionally, three of the elementary schools within our district have a lottery system to fill some or all of their enrollment spaces.
