Our School

Truckee High School is a comprehensive four year high school in the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District and is located in the Town of Truckee just 13 miles from Lake Tahoe. THS is accredited through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).  This school is one of twelve in the district.

Truckee High School opened in 1951 and now serves approximately 900 students in ninth through twelfth grades. The ethnic makeup of Truckee High is 33% Hispanic; 60% Caucasian; and 7% Other (Asian, Filipino, Asian Indian, African American, Native American, not specified). During the 1995-96 school year, Truckee High School restructured its school day and school year into a 4x4 block system where there are four ninety-minute blocks each school day. Ten credit courses such as English, math, science, and history (formerly year-long classes) are now covered in one semester, (18 weeks). Five credit courses such as marine biology and psychology that used to last one semester are now covered in one quarter, (9 weeks). This allows a student to take eight classes per school year. Student transcripts show grades and credits four times a year, at the end of each quarter, instead of two times a year as in a traditional semester grading system.

*One important item to note for colleges accepting students’ early admissions requests is that their transcript will only show that quarter’s work in progress, so if they are in a semester block, (year-long class) it will only show the first half of that year as in progress.
